Better protections for Latino consumers
Coalition: National Council of La Raza - Advocacy Day
Consumer Action joins the National Council of La Raza and hundreds of advocates to ask Congress for better protections for Latino consumers.
On March 2007, Consumer Action along with hundreds of advocates from across the country participated in the National Council of La Raza (NCLR) Advocacy Day. Sol Carbonell, Associate, National Priorities for Consumer Action, traveled to Washington, DC, to meet with representatives to address abusive credit card practices against Hispanic consumers, among other issues.
Carbonell, accompanied by a group of advocates and NCRL representatives, visited the offices of Congressman Baca (CA), Congresswoman Baldwin (WI) (left photo), Senator Feingold (WI), Senator Kohl (WI) and Senator Menendez (NJ) to ask for stronger consumer protections.
More specifically, Carbonell asked policy-makers to enact a monthly minimum payment warning, ban universal default, change-in-terms policies, mandatory arbitration clauses, and stop doublebilling on foreign conversion fees.
